St Luke’s Tour De Moor Challenge September 2014

On Sunday 14th September three employees of Tooltech, along with one of their tooling suppliers took part in the St Luke’s Tour de Moor challenge. The employees who took part were Adam Newcombe, Sean Devlin and Paul Roberts. The fourth member of the team was Iain Tattersall, Tooltech’s tooling supplier from WNT.

The annual event is an outdoor cycling challenge that takes place on Dartmoor and covers a total distance of 35 miles with most of the route being off road. The four members of the team trained for 2 months in preparation for the gruelling challenge. The furthest distance they covered during training was 18 miles so the 35 mile route was definitely going to be a challenge!

The foursome left the start line at Harrowbeer Airfield in Yelverton at 8.15am and set off on the route. The ride was going relatively smoothly until Iain’s bike malfunctioned 23 miles into the ride which caused a 45 minute pause for the team and forced him to complete the final 12 miles with only 3 gears. The route proved to be difficult with a lot of uphill ascents into a strong headwind. Despite the trials and tribulations the challenging route was completed in 4 hours and 30 minutes.

The team raised a total of £730 for local charity St Luke’s Hospice!
